Martha Morris was a beloved English teacher at Spaulding High School. After her death 30 donors contributed over $2,000 to the library in order to create a collection in her honor.
This collection reflects Mrs. Morris’s love of American Literature and Poetry and, in particular, her passion for the transcendentalists Emerson and Thoreau. Her enthusiasm for literature was not limited to classics; Mrs. Morris read widely from popular fiction. Many titles from her personal reading list can be found among these titles, and, specifically, the audio titles were pulled from this list.
Beyond being a reader and teacher of literature, Mrs. Morris was a poet herself. A compilation of her poetry completes this collection.
